So fittingly used together, the hymn “Abide With Me” set with Faure’s “Cantique de Jean Racine” seem to uplift each other from the opening notes of this work. The flowing triplets from Racine are so attributive to the smooth phrases of the hymn, used in all voices, except than the bass division. If this arrangement were a choral piece, Racine would be found in soprano, alto, and tenor parts, doing justifiably as well with the melody of the four part chorale division.
